Third edition of the TraCe Lecture Series this summer term

Lecture series “Violence as a Global Challenge” on Wednesday evenings in Darmstadt

 

The TraCe Lecture Series continues this summer term in Darmstadt. Titled “Violence as a Global Challenge”, every Wed­nesday evening the lecture series will pro­vide an interdisciplinary insight into current dynamics of political violence. 

The lecture series opens with an inter­disciplinary introduction to the topic of political violence and its transformations. The following lectures in the series will be dedicated to analyzing protests in cities as an ex­pression of violence, to examining urban violence in the form of terrorism and urban warfare as well as to discussing ecological violence. The lecture series will also address the effects of new tech­nologies and developments in the field of AI on the dynamics of violent phenomena. The institutional pers­pective will be deepened by a lecture on state violence, with a particular focus on the role of the police. Further lectures will take a look at the function of science and experts in the con­text of political violence and examine networks and social media in this context. Finally, the lecture series expands the inter­pretations of political violence by focusing on the analysis of social violence phenomena in the context of soccer.

The lecture series takes place from April 24 to July 10 2024 every Wed­nesday from 6:05 - 7:45 pm at the Technische Universität Darmstadt, S3|13, Schloss Kaisersaalbau, Hörsaal Residenzschloss 1, 64283 Darmstad. Most of the lectures will be held in German. The events will be streamed live on the TraCe YouTube channel and made availa­ble as a recording afterwards.
