In the summer of 2025, three new Associate Fellows have joined the TraCe research center: Ayşe-Martina Böhringer, Markus Bayer, and Frederik Schissler.
Ayşe-Martina Böhringer is based at the Chair of Public Law and International Law at Justus Liebig University Giessen, where she is currently preparing her habilitation. Her research in international law focuses on legal questions of collective security. As part of TraCe, she examines the two areas ius ad bellum (right to go to war) and ius in bello (the right to wage war).
Markus Bayer is an Associate Fellow at PRIF’s Research Department Local Peace Orders, where he leads the project “Echoes of the Past”. His research is situated at the intersection of political violence, collective memory, and its societal impacts. In the context of TraCe, he investigates knowledge within Germany regarding its colonial history in Namibia and how this has been processed in public discourse.
Frederik Schissler joins from PRIF, where his research focuses on the trend toward internationalization of intrastate conflicts. Data on the development of intrastate violence paints a clear picture, particularly since the early 2010s: intrastate conflicts are increasingly internationalized by the intervention of external actors. As part of TraCe, Frederik Schissler examines forms of external support in civil wars and analyzes the broader trend toward internationalization from a network perspective at the macro level.
