TraCe Welcomes New Researchers

Start of Rirhandu Mageza-Barthel's Fellowship and Association of Kristine Andra Avram

We are delighted to welcome two researchers at the Research Center “Transformations of Political Violence” (TraCe):

Since January, 2025 Prof. (Univ. of South Africa) Dr. phil. Rirhandu Mageza-Barthel is a TraCe Visiting Fellow and stays at the Center for Conflict Studies of Marburg University. Rirhandu Mageza-Barthel recently served as a Professor for Peace and Development Studies at the University of South Africa (UNISA). Among her publications, she is the author of the book Mobilizing Transnational Gender Politics in Post-Genocide Rwanda (Routledge) and co-editor of the volume Gewalt, Krieg und Flucht. Feministische Perspektiven auf Sicherheit (Budrich) as well as the Routledge Series Gender in a Global/Local World. During her stay she will contribute to research area 3.1 Interpretation of Violence, looking at endeavours towards peace as they pertain to feminist international relations.

Dr. Kristine Andra Avram is a researcher at the Center for Conflict Studies of Marburg University She investigates processes of meaning-making and interpretation in the context of (past) political violence. Her regional focus is on Sub-Saharan Africa and Eastern Europe. In the context of research areas 3.1 Interpretation of Violence and 3.2 Memories of Violence, she examines how narratives shape perceptions of violence, the ascription of responsibility, and processes of dealing with the past and reconciliation.
