The fourth TraCe lecture series will start in the coming summer semester at Goethe University Frankfurt and will extend into the winter semester 2025/26. Under the title “Transformations of Political Violence: New Perspectives”, the event will present new approaches to the changing forms, institutions and interpretations of political violence, which are examined in the context of TraCe. The lecture series combines interdisciplinary perspectives from history, sociology, political science and cultural studies with activist voices.
The lecture series opens with Michael Rothberg, who will examine the German legacy and consequences of colonialism and the Holocaust with regard to compensation, repair, and implication in the case of the Humboldt Forum. In a further lecture, Jephta Nguherimo will examine transgenerational memory of the genocide of the Ovaherero. Jie-Hyun Lim deals with the concept of “Victimhood Nationalism”, which is intended to illustrate competing memories of the role of the victim in coming to terms with the past in the post-war period in the global memory space. In his work, he analyses the global culture of remembrance and critically examines the memory of victims. For the last contribution of the summer term, Adam Kochanski will give a lecture about practicing norm localization in the International Human Rights Regime.
Further information on the events can be found on the lecture series site.
