Recalibrating the Compass

Workshop for Early Career Researcher on Career Planning and Future Pathways

A group of people are sitting around a table writing. There are flowers, drinks, and snacks on the table.

In everyday academic work, there is rarely room to reflect on one's own position and direction.

The one-day workshop, “Recalibrating Your Compass,” gave TraCe early career researchers (ECRs) the chance to explore key questions about their personal and professional futures in a relaxed and safe atmosphere. Led by TraCe coordinator Annika Elena Poppe, the eight participants asked themselves key questions: Which activities and topics energize them? Which strengths should they use more in the future? Which constraints are central, negotiable, or decisive for the next steps?

Using prompts and structured exercises, participants reflected on their interests, desires, and ideals during individual work phases to identify key conditions for their professional and personal futures. Then, in group work, they exchanged their ideas, shared their impressions, and considered possible steps to approach their next career decisions.
