We are delighted to welcome Bettina Brockmeyer and Hannah Ahlheim from Giessen as new associated researchers at the Research Center “Transformations of Political Violence”!
Bettina Brockmeyer is Professor of Modern History of the 19th and 20th Centuries at the Historical Institute at Justus Liebig University Giessen. Her research focuses on colonial history, body and gender history, and racism. At TraCe, she primarily focuses on how violence is addressed in the context of colonial history, decolonization, and contemporary perspectives. Her work also engages with questions of restitution and reparations. Her research is situated within the Research Area Interpretations.
Hannah Ahlheim is Professor of Contemporary History at the Historical Institute at Justus Liebig University Giessen. Her research explores the history of psychiatric knowledge, alongside the history of National Socialism and anti-Semitism. As part of TraCe, she examines the processes of discrimination, stigmatization, and exclusion of individuals and groups that precede the outbreak of political violence in a society. She is also concerned with the significance of knowledge for moral principles or social norms, for the framing, ascription and assessment of violence and for coping with it. Her work is located in the Research Area Interpretations.
