PRIF opens doors for visitors as part of the Night of Libraries

The PRIF Library opened its doors to visitors on April 4, 2025 under the title “Unfolded – Favorite Books from Peace and Conflict Research”. The event was organized by PRIF's Science Communication Department and included a broad program of lectures, games and an exhibition. The focus was on dialog between visitors and researchers.

There were also insights into TraCe research. An exhibition of the comic “Code of Courage”, based on Laura Guntrum’s research, was on display in the stairwell of the PRIF building. The comic follows four friends who stand up for human rights in increasingly authoritarian states. It shows how repression and surveillance is translated into the digital space.

 

Es gab auch Einblicke in die TraCe-Forschung. Eine Ausstellung des auf Laura Guntrums Forschung basierendem Comics „Code of Courage“ war im Treppen­haus des PRIF-Gebäu­des zu sehen. Der Comic be­gleitet vier Freund:innen, die sich in zu­nehmend autori­tären Staaten für Menschen­rechte einsetzen. Dabei zeigt er, wie sie sich Re­pression und Über­wachung in den digi­talen Raum über­setzen.

The comic tells the stories of more than 90 activists from Myanmar, Colombia, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Nicaragua, and Cameroon. In addition to the work of Laura Guntrum, the project is based on drawings and ideas by Charikleia Livani and Franziska Schraut and was editorially supported by Julian Lawrence (Teesside University, lecturer in Comics, Graphic Novels & Sequential Arts).

PRIF’s contributions also included book presentations on the Middle East conflict by Claudia Baumgart-Ochse, a lecture on common misconceptions about peace and conflict by Thorsten Gromes, and a book café. Visitors had the opportunity to engage in conversation with researchers such as Jonas J. Driedger and discuss current topics.
