Sexual Violence during War: Patterns and Policy

Last session of the Frankfurt TraCe Lecture Series Part 2 with Elisabeth Wood from Yale University

On Feb­ruary 4, 2026, Eliza­beth Wood from Yale Uni­versity will give a lecture on “Sexual Vio­lence during war: Patterns and Po­licy” as part of the TraCe Lec­ture Series “Trans­formations of Political Vio­lence: New Perspec­tives” Part 2. The lecture is a collaboration with the International Relations Colloquium.

Eliza­beth Wood is Frank­lin Muzzy Crosby Professor of the Human Environ­ment and Professor of Poli­tical Science, Inter­national and Area Stu­dies at Yale Uni­versity, where she teaches courses on com­parative politics, political vio­lence, collective action, agrarian stu­dies, and qualitative re­search methods. She has carried out field re­search in Colombia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, El Sal­vador, Peru, and Israel/Pales­tine and is currently writing two books, one on sexual vio­lence during war and a second on poli­tical violence in Colom­bia (with Francis­co Gutiérrez Sanín). Elisabeth serves as Coordi­nator of the International Scien­tific Committee of the Obser­vatorio de Restitución y la Regula­ción de Derechos de Propie­dad Agraria (The Observatory of Resti­tution and Regulation of Agrarian Pro­perty Rights). She also serves on the Edi­torial Boards of World Poli­tics and the Contentious Poli­tics series of the Cam­bridge University Press and was named a fellow of the Ameri­can Academy of Arts and Scien­ces in 2010.

The lec­ture series “Trans­formations of Political Vio­lence: New Perspectives” show­cases new approaches to the changing forms, insti­tutions, and inter­pretations of political vio­lence as they are studied within TraCe. It brings to­gether perspec­tives from history, sociology, po­litical sciences, and cul­tural studies with ac­tivist voices.

The presen­tation takes place at Cam­pus Westend and will be held in Eng­lish.
