TraCe at ISA Convention

Researchers represent TraCe with panels and presentations at ISA Convention in Chicago

From March 2 to 5, 2025, the 66th International Studies Association (ISA) titled “Reconnecting International Studies” took place in Chicago, with contributions of TraCe researchers. On the second day of the convention, Regine Schwab and Jonas Wolff organized a TraCe Panel titled “Reconnecting research on political violence: Transformations across types and scales”.

Juan Albarracín Dierolf and Jonas Wolff talked about repressive and criminal violence against activists, while Verena Lasso Mena and Markus Lederer examined Anthropocene geopolitics, structural violence and ecocide. Furthermore, Regine Schwab shed light on the perspective of transformation of war and the targeting of civilian infrastructure. In addition to the TraCe researchers, Jeannie L. Sowers (University of New Hampshire) and Erika S. Weinthal (Duke University) presented their contribution about the urban destruction and reconstruction in the Middle East. The panel was moderated by Regine Schwab and Elisabeth J. Wood (Yale University).

The panel was well received by the audience, who took the opportunity to ask various questions. Some TraCe researchers like Jonas Wolff and Regine Schwab participated in further panels and roundtables during the convention. Other TraCe members such as Nicole Deitelhoff, Jonas Driedger, Lisbeth Zimmermann, Felix Anderl and Stefka Schmid also took part in the conference.

In the run-up to the ISA Convention, Juan Albarracín Dierolf and Jonas Wolff organized the workshop “Violence Against Public Figures in Democracies”. The workshop on March 1 was jointly organized by the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), PRIF and TraCe, and was sponsored by the Foundation for German-American Academic Relations (SDAW).
